July 3rd, 2009 » Things not to doAfter 26 years of reffing, I found one more thing not to do this past weekend! During a U14G game that was going smoothly. A small dog on a leash starts barking just off the touch line on the spectator side - near play. I decide this is a potential problem. The ball is about 25 yards downfield from me. I point to the dog and sternly ask that he be moved away from the touch line. In the second I look towards the sideline and the dog, I got nailed in the outstretched hand by the ball. Why did I need to point? Any other interesting tips?...... - 2009-07-03
» I'm on the hunt for a good camera! Easy Best Answer if you already own one?
I would like it to be at least 10 Megapixels and have 5X zoom. I don't really know the difference between optical and digital zoom, so somebody's going to have to explain that to me. Also, I'm on a budget of like, 180$, but I can go as high as 200. Although, my mom is like, "Oh, 180? That's so expensive! I've seen cheaper!" Apparently she's seen these oh-so-cheap and great cameras on the shopping network, but then it gets too late and we miss our chance. Always. Anyway, does anybody have any recommendations? You definitely want optical zoom. Avoid digital zoom. Optical zoom essentially does what binoculars or a telescope do. They show the image larger and more detailed. Digital zoom is basically the same...... - 2009-07-03

» Can illinois auxiliary police officers make arrest 24/7, and can they carry there firearm 24/7 ?
Yes they are full fledged police, just not paid and in reserve. They cannot take the place of a police officer, I.E. a municipality cannot use an aux police officer to replace a paid officer. Since the late 90's they had to have full police training, absolute minimum in Illinois is 400 hrs of approved classes at an approved academy. Right before I retired the law made it even harder to be a aux police with a lot more firearm qualification then they had before. Aux police in Illinois are "conservators of the peace" the official definition of a police officer, therefore they can make an arrest and carry 24/7 and must take police action in an emergency, just like a paid working cop....... - 2009-07-03

since then i have purchased a $250 ipod nano and the money is still not depleted!! should i continue to use this? im not trying to do anything illegal!!!!!!! HELP!!Well, the Visa Gift card should automatically decline the purchase of a $250 transaction if it only allows $50 but if it didn't, You will still have to pay it whatever the seller didn't recieve. But maybe you have a gift card more than $250? You should not continue to use it. Must be stuck on "full". If the gift card was given to you then maybe it was $500 not $50. The other possibility is that maybe it is not a gift card. Maybe it is a regular Visa credit card and you are running up a balance that will hit you when the bill comes.it's gonna come back to bite ...... - 2009-07-03

» any other factor contribute to noisy picture beside high ISO?
I was wondering because sometimes I notice there is slight different in the amount of noise given the same ISO.There's an almost infinite number of variables such as your specific subject, what light levels you're actually shooting at, the background, if there's shadowy areas or not, etc. I have ISO1600 shots of off of my D80 that look perfectly clean, and then some iso400 ones that actually look pretty gritty, all depending on what I happen to be shooting and how I'm shooting. "Generally" if the light level is reasonable and you're just trying to maintain a faster shutter speed, high ISO will tend to look a bit cleaner. If you're down in the gutter with no light and a longer shutter speed, high ISO will "tend to" look worse here. That ...... - 2009-07-03

Hi, All Japanese learning books claim that in Japanese there are two types of adjectives: i-adjectives and na-adjectives (e.g. 高い and 静かな). But recently I paid attention that some adjectives have both forms. For example: 大きい and 大きな, 小さい and 小さな. Are there many such adjectives with both forms? Is it a separate category of adjectives? Thanks, YevgenyTo my knowledge, there are very few adjectives with both い and な forms. Just think of them as more or less exceptions to the rules.Although you might think Ookii is a na adjective, it is not. Ookii is a -ku adjective.大きな is a na-adjective, 大きい is an i-adjective. There is no such thing as a "ku adjective."大きい・...... - 2009-07-03

» Compaq Presario 1200 - odd battery problem
I have a Compaq Presario 1200 (12XL410) laptop that has a questionable battery. It seems to work. However, if you leave the computer alone for a few hours and then try to start it, it will go from reporting 100% charge to 0% charge (obtained using the battery's built-in lights) before Windows even loads. Here's the weird thing. The battery still reports 0% through the lights on the battery itself, but as soon as you plug it in for about five minutes, it will report 100% again. If you unplug it, it runs fine for several hours. It seems like it needs to be plugged in to "remember" that it's actually charged. Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to buy a new battery!...... - 2009-07-03

Is it legal to copy a GSM SIM card. There are products that allow you to copy multiple SIM Cards to a single SIM card which means one handset--many linesI am certain that the expectation is that there is a ?one-SIM, one-phone" rule in effect; thus, if you copy the contents of several SIM's onto one card, isn't that giving you access to those other person's phones? The only legitimate use I could see for this is if one person had several different phones (and thus several different SIM's) and wanted to have one SIM that he could interchange between phones. But that seems like an odd fact pattern to me. Seems more likely that one would perhaps want to be able to clone a SIM and then make calls using the other person's...... - 2009-07-03

Some of the homeless people are legit, which is sad, but most beggars just have nothing better to do and want to try to see how gullible people are.yeah i wont give money to a homeless person but, if they ask for food i will give them food. i agree totally there are people that stand with signs on our main corner asking for money. if they took all that time and effort holding a sign in the freezing cold they could use the same effort and get a good job. sometimes they are ...... - 2009-07-03

Great timing!Actually, since you have your "OK to edit" tag on I thought I would throw out another way this could be cropped. I also did a bit of tweaking in Capture NX on the background, maw and beak. Simply goofing around. http://users.marktwain.net/hawkins2/food.jpgGreat timing indeed!! Amazing to see right down its gullet like that. Is this a crop from a bigger shot, or were you super close to the little bird?About a 50% crop - at 300mm I can't get a complete starling in frame at about 6-7ft away. I shall have to go back and look at the originals. Thanks Sabbath - that shows why I allow editing as it is always good to see ima...... - 2009-07-03

» First Question
I posted my intro in the Welcome section (go say Hi to me!! :P ) and I'm gonna jump right in with a question. I recently got a Fuji Finepix S7000, and am VERY new to aperature and shutter speed. I've done most of my shooting on Auto mode. I know WHAT they are, but I'm still working on figuring out how to adjust them and pick the right combo for shots. My problem is that even when I use the Auto mode, I usually end up lightening/brightening the photos in Photoshop. Its frustrating becuase I don't feel like i'm really taking good pictures, it seems like cheating to me. Is this normal that you have to "tweak" your photos, or do I just need to get better at lighting and I'll be able to not have to do that? I have read my ma...... - 2009-07-03

» My girlfriends mom is so strange...Help?
I've been with my girl for 3 years now and we're both going to the same college so we decided to move in together, thats when it all began. Her mother is making us get a two bedroom apartment. I told her that it was a good idea so we can have space to store all our crap.. She gave me a dirty look after I said that. After that she then bought my girlfriend a new bed a single size bed. (she had a queen before). she told her that her old bed has to stay so they can turn her old room into a guest room. It is very clear that she doesn't want us sleeping together, which is dumb if you ask me, because we will be LIVING together. Does she actually think that were gonna sleep in our own rooms? » Affect of Room Environment on Student test taking
What research is available to support whether students testing in a large arena style room or a smaller classroom type setup perform better on tests? As a college student, I feel reasonably equipped to answer this question. Quite frankly, you should not be surprised to find that it depends on the student. To a small few, it truly won't make a difference. To most, it is a matter of preference. My roommate is intimidated by a small classroom, as he prefers annonymity. I, on the other hand, like the idea of receiving more individualized attention if I have a question. To my knowledge, there are no conclusive studies on this subject. Results tend to vary....... - 2009-07-03
» Information on Email Campaign.?
How effective is email campaign for a business. How does the process works & What are the dos and donts of email campaign?Ok to use e-mail marketing you will need an auto responder that complies to spam regulations. They have to be able to opt out at any time. How it works you first need to have a landing page or lead capture on your site. In this you need to give some thing away that is relevant to your site it could be a free coarse or e book. the aim of the give away is to get their e-mail address. Then the auto responder comes it to play. This collects their e-mail address though the opt in form you supply on the site or landing page also know as squeeze page. Your auto responder will deliver a series of e-mails in sequence to t...... - 2009-07-03
» Would this make the Dems mad?
Bush should resign now. Then Dick Cheney becomes President (that would really TICK OFF the libs)!!! Then Cheney appoints Condoleezza Rice as VP. Then Cheney resigns two weeks later and Condoleezza Rice, A Republican, becomes the first black AND the first female President!!! Yes, that should do it alright!!!!!!! I like Bush, and I voted for him twice. I do not want him to resign. I am also not interested in playing silly games to rile the Democrats. But, you get a star for your creativity.Outside of the fact that the world already thinks we are nuts for reelecting Bush, we would do two very stupid things with that idea. » ECS Elite Group Notebook Computer
Where can I get a thorough guide, manual, tutorial on the ECS Elite Notebook computer? I bought a brand new one in July, and all that came with it was a "quick guide" that told me almost nothing--(in 5 languages). This laptop has a 10 gig hard drive, CD burner, DVD player, etc. but I am not able to make good use of it without support, which didn't come with it. (It has Windows 98--at my request).applejackandjill-ga: Unfortunately, ECS does not provide any useful support for their notebooks, especially when used with Windows 98. » USDA Backs Production of Rice With Human Genes
This article was sent to me by a friend. What are they thinking? USDA Backs Production of Rice With Human Genes By Rick Weiss Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, March 2, 2007; A02 The Agriculture Department has given a preliminary green light for the first commercial production of a food crop engineered to contain human genes, reigniting fears that biomedically potent substances in high-tech plants could escape and turn up in other foods. The plan, confirmed yesterday by the California biotechnology company leading the effort, calls for large-scale cultivation in Kansas of rice that produces human immune system proteins in its seeds. The proteins are to be extracted for use as an anti-diarrhea medicine and might be...... - 2009-07-03
» Why does the benefit of a doubt always go the batsman's way?
Doesn't it leave the poor bowlers and fielders helpless?Bowlers can make a come back If they are hit for a six, they can still bowl and wicktets For batsmen, they have only one chance, once he is out,he can't bat anymore Also to make spectators happy Cricket has always been a batsman's game Spectators come to see their team bat, mainlyinteresting But, I think it is bcoz most of the spectators like to watch their team batting rather than bowling If cricket becomes a low scoring game,a lot of spectators won't enjoy it Report Abuse Cricket is (supposed) to be gentlemans game, and if the feilding team were not sure that the batsman was out, then he wasn...... - 2009-07-03
» Taking photos during heavy rain
When I was taking photos with my Zenit 12 xp, I never worried about the rain 'coz I knew nothing serious would happen to my camera, except of rust (kidding :P). But now I'm totaly afraid of my digi cam, because there is no mechanical things - only electronics. Do you have any special "clothes" for your cameras to take pics, during rain? Or how do you do it? I had a waterresistant Minolta but it was compact. I also tried with an umbrella but it is quite uncomfortable, especially when I'm alone and have noone to help me with holding it exactly above me.No special clothes, but then again, I don't need them. » Secret to speaking Japanese fluently?
Is there a secret to speaking fluently? I mean speaking Japanese fast like a native. I speak kind of slowly and it looks really bad. The more comfortable you become with what your saying the easier it comes out.
