Why XBMC should support Ogg Theora

January 5th, 2009
  • Hi,

XBMC desperately needs to support Ogg Theora video. Why? First, because it is a shame that one of the leading open source projects in multimedia still has no support for the one truly open video codec. Second, because Theora is gaining popularity: though there may have been a time when only hardcore open source advocates would use it, nowadays more and more people are producing Theora content (just take a look at videos from many conferences!). Third, because current mplayer versions already support Theora. Surely it can't be that difficult to backport Theora support to the mplayer version used by XBMC?

    Yours,
    Jean

  • If current mplayer supports it I'm sure its just a matter of time before elupus gets around to updating the dll. :)

  • patch welcome ;)
