How to shut off logging in OP 2.1 303 4009 314

January 5th, 2009
  • I upgraded to version 2.5 but had too many problems with it on my 6 year old windows 98se machine. I need information on how to shut off the logging on version 2.1, please. If there is a way, I hope it is easy, as I need to learn a lot about PC's & Outpost. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

  • Since I started using Skype the log is absolutely flooded by incoming UDP-entries on a certain port. This results in either a too big logfile or limitations that will cause a "clean up" at least once a day.

I want to turn off the logging for only that application or port. Is there any possibility to do this? I don't want a specific application to "ruin" the whole meaning with logging. :(

    /Cheers,
    David

    Hello cure33,

Open the OutPost GUI>Click on Show Detailed Log>File>Log Cleanup Setting and change your settings there. I have mine set to 5 mb now.

    See attached pic:

  • I'm sorry to hear that, bassbag.

Unfortunately I'm not an expert at all so I'm afraid I haven't got any clue. I've been using the latest version (375/374) for two days now and I haven't bumped into any problems or conflicts so far. But it's running on Win XP Pro SP2.

    /Cheers,
    David

    Hello casper999,

You can disable logging by going to the V2 FAQ see: Disabling Logging (http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7392).

What problems were you having with 2.5?

  • Hello minoka..
When running the latest version i get unexplained fatal exceptions(i.e a fatal exception has occured ..but it doesnt give any programe reference like" in internet explorer" for example). They dont usually give any clue to whats causing it.For example just shutting down msn messenger can cause it ,or it can happen just browsing.I also get kernel32 illegal ops errors/page faults. The most annoying though, is that on shutdown ,my computer sometimes hangs or even if it doesnt, i get scandisk starting up everytime saying the pc wasnt shutdown properly.None of the errors actually states categorically that its outpost ,however after going through all my programmes(uninstalling /reinstalling/disabling/enabling etc)ive tracked it down to outpost.I dont have any problems or conflicts with 369.The problem with trying to diagnose 98 issues is that ,its not the most stablest OS and each of us also run many other apps /programmes with it.The other programmes i run im happy with so ill stay with 369 for the time being (though being behind a nat router and not particulary concerned about leaktests ..i have been tempted to use outpost pro 1 ,with the low resorces that comes with it just for app filtering) ,and try the next update.

  • Sounds bad indeed!

  • Hi bassbag,

I am using the latest version op 2.5 on my win98SE machine and have not had a single problem. Can you be more specific regarding the trouble(s) you had with 375?

  • Just wondering which version of 2.5 did you use?.Ive had trouble with the latest version 375 ,on my 98se machine, which has caused unexplained illegal errors ,invalid page faults ,and shutdown problems.Howver the previous version 2.5 369 doesnt cause me any problems.I am currently staying with 369 and ill try the next update and see if that rectifies my problems.

  • I have found that feature and I've also shaped down the max size to what I think is acceptable.

But what I'd really like is a function where I can exclude a specified application or port from being logged. I'm not totally satisfied with just being able to shape down the log, using "amount of days", "max entries for ALL allowed applications" or simply putting a "maximum size" of the log file.

    /Cheers,
    David
