i had to bleed my front braked but the bleeder valve is stripper i tried using vice grips and they just wont come undone. any hints? or do i have to buy new calipersIf it is rounded off, not stripped, so you can't get on to undo, first go buy a new bleed nipple.
The old one is useless, so now pick up a hammer and hit it, without smashing it, of course.
Put the vise grips on, and it should come out easily. If it doesn't, back to the hammer.
If you fail, then go for a new caliper, but it shouldn't be necessary.
Next time, use a spanner that FITS! A ring spanner or even a socket. Open end/ shifting spanners only crush tubular items, never use them!
Don't overtighten the nipples, either. Pick up some new bleeder valves and rust remover spray and then soak the bleeders fully and let sit a few hours at least 6 hrs or 12 if possible then use a pair of vise grips to remove the old bleeders.Remember that the vise grips should be locked onto the bleeder very tight then squeezed hard in order from them to work.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way don't give up bec they will come out eventually but if worse comes to worse remove the calipers from the vehicle then try to remove the bleeders. New calipers come with a bleeder valve. If you are handy you can remove the caliper, put a block inside of it to keep the piston from moving and turn it so the brake line is up and loosen the banjo fitting to bleed it. Do it just like a normal bleed, build up some pressure and loosen and then tighten before releasing the brake petal. #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
