Where can you buy steel wheels. I have alloys that are 'leaking air' so thought steels a cheaper replacement ?

  • Ask the tyre company to remove the tyres and clean up the rims. When they refit the tyres they can also use some sealant around the inside of the rim and this should cure it.
Had two of mine done 3 months ago and not had any problems since.

  • you can find some good deals on this web site on wheels they might have what your looking for,if they don't try a salvage yard, good luck, http://tirerack.com

  • One thing, try a specialist tyre depot, not the garage. Sometimes it's because clip-on balance weights have been used in the past and have started corrosion so the beads leak. It's sometimes possible to clean the wheels up and use a bead sealant, a good tyre place will at least have a look.

The reason the garage won't fit tubes is that on occasion the inner surface of alloy wheels isn't smooth enough (because they aren't made with that in mind) to protect tubes from chafing and then failing. There have been accidents because of that and garages often have that policy to cover themselves.

    Good luck.

  • WHAT MAKES YOU THINK IT'S YOUR WHEELS THAT ARE LEAKING AND NOT YOUR TIRES OR VALVE STEM ?

  • you dont need to buy steel wheels just fit innertubes into your alloys job done

  • You can usually take the tyres of the rims and Clean the inside of the seating area of the the tyre with a electric drill with a wire brush attachment. I have managed to stop loads leaking alloy rims with this technique.

  • You can fit inner tubes to alloy wheels, but if you want steel wheels then most scrap yards only charge up to 拢10 per steel wheel usually with tyres already fitted,so 4 wheels = 拢40.Alloy wheels from scrap yards are from usually from 拢20 each.

  • Alloy wheels that have minor porosity leak(s) can be repaired with a Devcon epoxy. Locate the leak(s) and thoroughly clean and rough up the area on the inside and seal it.
This sounds like a somewhat "Mickey Mouse" repair - but it is a known good repair and was actually an authorized repair procedure from Ford.

  • The key word is won't not can't.

They make a radial inner tube. Unless there's a physical reason that they can explain to you WHY an inner tube won't work on your rims, they're out to make money.

I would take it to another shop and call around to get a few opinions.

  • If can get some sort of seal put on the inside of the alloy to prevent air escaping when the alloys get old. You can get this done at a garage. This might be cheaper than new wheels and you get to keep the alloys. My auntie had the same problem with a Ford Mondeo

  • Craigslist, Ebay, autoparts store, dealership, tire shop...take your pick.

  • get some inner tubes put inside them cheaper option
